[Beyond the Upstate Soundscape: Voice of the Valley Noise Rally 2012]

The orginal mission of the Upstate Soundscape was twofold; on one hand, the show/blog was meant to serve as a “sounding board for the diverse and thriving experimental community” in the Upstate region. That aspect of the twofold mission has been very successful.

The show/blog was also supposed to “keep its listeners up to date on what the rest of the world is up to in the experimental sound arts.” While the radio show has always mixed in a lot of music and sound from around the world, the blog has not made any attempt to cover things that originated from outside the region. That will now change with the new regular series called ‘Beyond the Upstate Soundscape.’

Our B.U.S. posts will feature interesting artists, labels, organizations, blogs, festivals, radio shows, and other experimental entities at work outside the region so as to better inform everyone on what is going on outside the region that may be of interest.

First up for the B.U.S. series is a the 4th annual Voice of the Valley Noise Rally. Set to take place this weekend in at Indian Meadows campgrounds in Pentress, WV, this festival of the weird will feature over 30 artists over the course of 3 nights. For those of you who have zero interest in the clusterfucks that are Bonaroo and all other ridiculously over-priced, over-crowded, shitty music scam-stivals, Voice of the Valley may just be what you’ve been waiting for.

The website for last year’s fest advertised the Spartan nature of the event in this way: “There are no vendors on site, no prepared food on site, no special activities, no dunking booths, no carnival games, just a stage with fucked up music.” Sounds like my kinda event. Check out these photos, too.

Here is the fest’s info:
