[Visually Sound Sunday: Jon Mueller’s Death Blues/Cages]

Really good show lined up for Labor Day evening at Soundlab. Super talented Buffalo duo Cages is bringing to town some Milwaukee friends including percussionist Jon Mueller (Collections of Colonies of Bees, Volcano Choir). Mueller will be performing with his Death Blues project that Mueller describes as “a multidisciplinary project that addresses the inevitability of death as impetus to become more present in each moment.” See the video below for more on Mueller’s thinking behind the project. Also on the bill is Group of Altos, another act out of Milwaukee.

And if you’re not yet familiar with Cages, check out the 2008 live performance in Bloomington below. Singer Nola Ranallo is easily one of the most intense vocalists you will see on stage. Her delivery has a Bjork-like ferociousness while the timber of her voice is wholly unique. Backed by multi-instrumentalist David Bailey, the duo will perform some new material from their upcoming 12″.  Should be a great show.

[Visually Sound Sunday: Colin Stetson Videos]

Montreal-based saxophonist Colin Stetson will be rolling through Soundlab in Buffalo tonight and EMPAC in Troy this Thursday.

Below are two videos for you; the first show’s Stetson breaking down the structure of his song “Judges,” while the second is the video for “Those Who Didn’t Run.”

Sarah Neufeld of The Arcade Fire and Bell Orchestre will join Stetson tonight as well.

[Preview: Crispin Glover, Cobra, Com Truise/Ay Fast, ASAC @ UAG

Tons of good stuff happening this week so on tonight’s show we’ll preview each of them.

Crispin Glover

-Tonight actor/director Crispin Hellion Glover will return to the Market Arcade for a performance and film screening. To set the stage for the two-night appearance, we’ll hear a track off of  Mr. Glover’s 2006 album The Big Problem ? The Solution. The Solution = Let it Be. That’s right, the guy makes weird music, too.

-Friday night, Wooden Cities will be staging a performance of John Zorn’s improvisational-game piece Corba at Hallwall’s. Those unfamiliar with the Corbra concept can tune in to hear a past Cobra performance.

-Also, Friday night Soundlab will feature Oneida, NY, native and Ghostly International recording artists Com Truise, along with Buffalo producer Ay Fast.  We’ll hear tracks from both these electronic beat makers.

-And on Sunday, many members of the Albany Sonic Arts Collective will perform at the Upstate Artist’s Guild in Albany. We’ll hear songs from a number of artists that will be at Sunday night’s show, which is being put together as a benefit for the UAG. The UAG needs help to stay in its current gallery space and the ASAC, which has worked closely with the Guild since 2007, is hoping to raise as much money as possible to help the Guild out.

Show starts at 10pm on 91.3 FM WBNY. Stream at WBNY.org.

Here is part IV of the Ghost Father mix series. As usual, no tracklist provided. As usual, none needed.  After all, not knowing where you’re going turns out to be half the fun.
