[B-U-S: New Weird Australia]

Continuing on with the [Beyond the Upstate Soundscape] series, here is a group that–like the Upstate Soundscape–is taking a regional approach to exploring contemporary experimental music and sound.

New Weird Australia, run by Stuart Buchanan,  spotlights all things weird from Down Under. NWA has been going strong since 2009 and has really established a solid working model for the regional or geographical organization and presentation of experimental music and sound. NWA presents Australia’s best out-there sounds via their own label, podcast (formally radio show), events, and free compilations.

Check out the details and video below with founder Buchanan to see what NWA has accomplished so far and what’s in store for the future.

From NWA website:

New Weird Australia is an initiative designed to promote and support new eclectic and experimental Australian music through a variety of unique projects.  Neither one genre nor another, New Weird Australia puts the spotlight on a new breed of innovative Australian artists and challenges our understanding of what music should be.

Our current projects include a free compilation seriesdigital record label (named Wood & Wire),  podcast showvideo blog (Output Device) and an irregular program of live events.

New Weird Australia is managed by Stuart Buchanan. Below, Stuart talks to Real Time Arts in July 2012 about New Weird Australia, past, present and future.
